Rubble Becomes Art

for Mezzo Soprano, Flute, Bassoon, and Guitar
optional: Mezzo Soprano, Violin, Violoncello, and Guitar

Commissioned by Kate Steinbeck and Pan Harmonia

In celebration of its 20th season (2019-2020), Kate Steinbeck and Pan Harmonia have commissioned composer Dosia McKay to create an innovative work for voice, flute, bassoon and guitar for the chamber music repertoire and for the citizens of North Carolina. This endeavor is funded by a North Carolina Arts Council Program Support grant and private donors.

The multi-part commissioned piece, to be performed by women artists, will set to music words of women writers from across the state on themes of timely significance, specifically focusing on inclusivity and exclusivity regarding cultural, economic, and gender issues.

The following poems will comprize the triptych:
"Dark Sister, Sing" by Sally Atkins
"The Secret" by Valerie Foote
"Lemniscates" by Cathy Larson Sky

The public premieres by Pan Harmonia of the completed work will take place in Western North Carolina over the weekend of November 8-10, 2019 including a performance at the North Carolina Writers' Network Fall Conference in Asheville on Saturday, November 9, 2019.
